The next chapter in the Story of God is the unimaginable. It is the tragedy of the in-breaking of sin or as one theologian calls it – “the vandalism of shalom.” Our first parents Adam and Eve walked with God in the cool of the afternoon in a beautiful paradise. And the paradise was paradise because He was there with them and because they were there with Him… fully and completely in unhindered relationship. And all of that is destroyed in a moment. All of that is decimated in a moment as the splendor of God is consciously exchanging for a lie… that we can do it better than God… that we can rule our lives and this world better than He could… and as the rest of the story tells us, we’ve been duped. So “all have fallen short of the glory of God,” and now chaos and death are tragically part of the fabric of life. But even in the midst of chaos, there is the seed planted for the story to take another turn… a foreshadowing of the Redeemer and Rescuer… the One who will recreate for His glory and for our good.
