Now It’s Our Turn!

This past Sunday, we launched a new series called Movement, exploring the explosive multiplication of the early church in the book of Acts. Each follower of Jesus saw themselves as an integral part of the most powerful, life-changing movement in the history of the world. From Jerusalem in AD 33 to Kirkland, Washington and beyond in 2015, God is on the move. And now it’s our turn!

There were ordinary people who took seriously their call to be a part of the movement of Jesus. Some of those ordinary people took the good news of Jesus from Jerusalem to Rome, Paul being the most notable.

Then some followers of Jesus took the gospel from Rome into Western Europe and ultimately around AD 830 to Sweden.

In 1852 Gustaf Palmquist emigrated from Sweden to Rock Island, Illinois and planted a church. Palmquist along with other Swedish emigrants multiplied churches throughout Illinois and into Minnesota, and they became the Swedish Baptist General Conference.

At some point, a group of Swedes left the Midwest and ended up in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. 100 years ago, they planted Ballard Baptist Church.

In 1969, Ballard Baptist planted Northshore Baptist Church in Bothell, now Northshore Community Church in Kirkland.

Northshore has planted churches in Monroe, Mill Creek, Edmonds, and Woodinville. We’re planning our next church plant for a 2016 launch.

We are here as followers of Jesus because 2000 years ago, ordinary people in Jerusalem took the commission of Jesus seriously. They connected with people who were far from God, they shared the good news of Jesus, they taught people to follow Him, they gathered in community, and then they multiplied leaders and churches to reach their world. They saw themselves as an integral part of the most powerful, life-changing movement in the history of the world. Now it’s our turn!

New Series: Movement

Movement-Series-16x9_web

The world has never seen anything like “the” movement called the Church. People want to be a part of something bigger and something greater than themselves. The book of Acts tells the story of a group of first-century, rag-tag followers of the Risen Christ who became the movement that would change the world. It’s God’s movement because He is a God on the move. The movement of the Holy Spirit throughout the centuries, the movement of the good news of Jesus—and He invites us to get on the move with Him. Come be a part of the most important, life-transforming, world-changing MOVEMENT in history. Here’s the series schedule:
