Day 27 | Faithful Through the Fire

Read: Daniel 3:1–30

Key Verse: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up. —Daniel 3:16–18

There is no guarantee things will always end well when we take a risk; at least in our limited perspective.

Imagine being one of the three guys in the historical city of Babylon who were faced with the decision to compromise by spitting in the face of everything you know to be right. The consequence for staying faithful to God was clearly understood: death by BBQ. If I were there, I would have this thought racing in my mind: if I take a stand for what’s right, God will work it out so I don’t really get hurt.

What if God decided to let the three guys burn up in the furnace without any mystery figure miraculously rescuing them from the flames? That would not change who God is, or what He is about. That would not change what I am responsible for.

God is more concerned with our obedience, while He intends to take care of the results. He may give us the opportunity to stand up for a cause or help in a risky situation, and then see the situation collapse. No worries, God will take care of the results.

Prayer: God, please help me to trust in You with the results. Help me to take a risk and trust in You with the needed answers in Your timing.
