Read: Luke 10:1–3
Key Verse: And He was saying to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” ~ Luke 10:2
For many years the missionary movement has preached the Gospel to the ends of the world. Some experienced joy and reward, many others experienced tears and suffering. Because globalization has opened avenues for communication, we may think the task of bringing the Gospel to the nations is almost over, but our perception is far from reality. Today, as we are doing this devotional, more than 6,000 people groups have still never heard the name of Jesus. That is why the plea of Jesus to pray for workers is so meaningful for us today. I love that Jesus saw the multitudes and had compassion on them; that He felt in His heart that they were “like sheep without a Shepherd.”Almost 3 billion people have never heard the name of Jesus; these are the “sheep” Jesus came to save. Will we pray passionately asking God to call workers into these fields? Do we have enough compassion to get out of our comfort zone and travel to those places where the harvest is ready? Are we willing to take the risk to be an answer to that prayer?
Prayer: Lord, lead me to pray and think about what my part is in the spiritual harvest around the world. Help me to pray for and support those that You call to go far away to bring the good news of the gospel to the nations.
