Day 17 | Pray for Courage

Read: Ephesians 5:8–17

Key Verse: Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. —Ephesians 5:15–16

A word of warning: Don’t pray for something you don’t want answered!

My friend asked God for help developing patience and showing God’s love at work. It “just so happened” that highly annoying people confronted him soon after settling in his office. He lost his cool and blew up at them.
I’ve prayed for opportunities to show Jesus to my son—the next thing I know I have a boy who is driving me nuts and doing his best to push all my buttons.

Both my friend and I were expecting a nice conversation or something more spiritual, but sometimes the greatest opportunities to grow spiritually happen in the most unspiritual situations.

The lesson learned is God answers prayer, but not in Hollywood-style romance as we might like. We can pray for God to open doors today to show Jesus, but we’ve got to keep our eyes wide open for unexpected opportunities. The open doors that God wants to lead us through may be unglamorous, but completely what God wants for us today.

Pray for the courage to make the most of every opportunity.

Prayer: God, I give You permission to use me however You want. Lead me through every opportunity and give me the strength to imitate You in every detail.
