Key Verse: Who will separate us from the love of Christ?” – Romans 8:35a
Let’s be honest. We want a safety net. If we take a risk, we want something to fall back on. But here’s the deal: we can risk knowing that we are secure in God’s love. If God, at great risk-taking costs to Himself, gave His life for us…if He is the most powerful Being in the universe…if He has the unlimited resources of heaven, is there anything or anyone who can ultimately separate us from the love of Christ? If that’s not a “safety net,” I don’t know what is.
You can’t read the pages of Scripture and find a person whose life got easier and more comfortable when they began to follow Jesus. In fact, the Bible seems to indicate the opposite. The Apostle Paul, who wrote the passage you just read, experienced hardship, hunger, abuse, shipwreck, and danger after danger. (For a taste of what he experienced, read 2 Corinthians 11:23-27). But all the while, Paul took those risks knowing that he was secure in God’s love. He knew there was nothing that could strip him from God’s hands. You can take a risk, and you can love because you are secure in God’s love.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be secure in Your love today. Help me to see that even if I take a risk and experience loss, I will never lose Your love. And Lord, help me to show and share Your love with people in my world today.
