Key Verse: For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it – Luke 9:24
The impulse to protect ourselves and avoid danger is a natural one. We marvel at thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies who intentionally put their lives at risk for fun. What comes far more naturally for most of us is to play it safe – avoid risk, flee danger. This might be great advice for someone considering skydiving as a hobby, but it doesn’t fit with the kind of life Jesus has for us. Over the next 28 days we’ll learn from the life of Jesus and other heroes of the faith that living as a follower of God involves putting aside our own comfort and agenda and embracing the uncertain, often unpredictable life of faith. The God of risk calls us to a life of risk for His sake.
In our weekend messages, small group gatherings, and daily devotionals, we’ll challenge each other to listen closely to what God is calling us to do and respond by taking action – even when it’s risky. Are there areas where you’ve been playing it safe? Is there something God may want you to do but you’ve been holding back because of fear? God is calling all of us to trust Him and live a life of risk. Are you in?
Prayer: Lord, I want to be all in. Teach me to listen to Your leading and courageously respond by taking action. Thank You that no matter what, I know You can be trusted.
